Adak, AK is one of the most remote and unique locations in the world. As the furthest inhabited island in the Aleutian Chain, it has served many hidden purposes: a FOB for US troops in World War 2, a nuclear weapons base and early warning station for the White Alice system, and a submarine listening post for the clandestine SOSUS project during the Cold War. Built to house 5000+ families at its peak, it has since been all but abandoned. These recordings were made in the decaying remains of the military installation, and will probably be the last professional sounds ever captured on the island.
